Week 9 Notices

Week 9 - Wiki Iwa

Kia Ora Kākano Whānau,

We hope you have been enjoying your weekend and the sun that has been shining!

We are entering a very special week for our children. The Holy Week. This week is the last week of Lent and we have so many special days to remember and learn about leading up to Easter Sunday, which is when Jesus rose from the dead.

We have some special learning happening for the children this week to help them learn about the Holy Week.

    On Tuesday we have a Palm Sunday Liturgy at 12:15pm in the church

    On Thursday we have a Washing of the Feet Liturgy at 12:15pm in the hall.

We are teaching all our tamariki about what the week leading up to Easter Sunday is really about. This video could be very helpful to show your children and help you remember what the HOLY WEEK is about and why it is important that we recognise and celebrate the days leading up to Easter Sunday.

Thank you

 Thank you so much to all of our school families for supporting our Caritas Rice Day today.  The children enjoyed their meal of rice.  This was an opportunity for children to experience what it is like to only have one type of food each day.  It was great to hear some children discussing what it must be like not to have enough food each day.

A few reminders for the end of the week...

Tomorrow (Thursday) Kakano 4-7 will be hosting the Annunciation Liturgy in the school hall at 12:15.  You are all welcome to join us, we ask that you be seated by 12:15.

Friday - we have our weekly visit to the library, please make sure your child has their library books ready to return so they can get new books out.

Sausage sizzles and juicies will be available to purchase, $1.50 each.

Week 8 Reminders

Wow what an amazing Gala we had, everyone looked like they really enjoyed the night. We would love to thank the hardworking PTA for providing a great night for our school community to come together.  We also want to thank all the amazing families and sponsors who supported the school in this successful event.  In a few weeks we will find out how much money has been raised for our school.

Even the teachers got to try the bouncy castle.

On Tuesday we have rice day, this is a fundraiser for Caritas. The children need to bring in a bowl and fork and a gold coin donation. As a school we all come together and have our rice at lunchtime.  We remember how some children around the world only get rice to eat everyday, every meal. We talk about how we are so lucky to have the food available to us.  The children only need morning tea packed.

All students are expected to participate. It is a good thing to allow your child to experience what having limited choices feels like and plain food tastes like. So please, unless your child has specific dietary requirements do not buy or provide a school lunch on this day.

The children are  enjoying technology  provocations that have been offered.

Inside the toast has become more popular and they started the week with wanting the toast made for them, to now they confidently cook and spread the spreads on their own toast.  There are some amazing conversations happening during this time.

A few parents have asked if this activity can continue in class, we are able to provide the bread for the toast, but if we are to continue the toast after this week we need supplies of spreads, so we will need donations of spreads. If you would like to bring in a jar or 2 that would be appreciated

Outside the children have enjoyed carpentry, they have been building some amazing creations. There is usually a queue for this as we don't have enough building supplies. It would be great to get some more supplies for these activities. Below is a list of equipment we need, so if you have any spare at home we would love to take them off your hands for our wonderful children to use

.

*    Hammers

*    Nails

*    Saws

*    Bottle caps
*    Small pieces of untreated wood

*    Anything useful on the carpentry table.

Busy builders, bug hunters and learners

 This week our play focus has had a technological focus.  We have been learning how technology can be used to help humans and that there is a design process to follow.

We have used different tools to build in the sandpit and at the carpentry table, we have designed our own towers and fashion and we have even used toasters and tools to make yummy toast in the morning.

We have loved watching our caterpillars transform themselves into cocoons over the past week and are excited to see them become butterflies.  Mr Bach has shown us how to tag the butterflies.  When we tag a butterfly we are able to track where they travel and how far, we are loving being a part of a real-life science investigation.

Check out our learning for week 6

We have been enjoying our week of learning.  This week we have had a focus on our fine motor skills and have been busy completing mazes, beading and completing patterns using small tools.

You may also have heard some talk about the Zones.  In class, we have been talking lots about how we feel and what Zone we are in.   I have included some information about this, why not ask your child about the Zones when they get home today.  The goal is that children are in the Green Zone.  We are learning how we transition in and out of the different zones throughout the day and that is alright.  We need to manage ourselves to get back to the Green Zone when needed.

Some things we can do to help us get back to the Green Zone

Week 6 Information

 Welcome to week 6 of Term 1.

This week we move back to Level 1 which means parents are allowed back into our classrooms.  We are so proud of the way the children are able to manage themselves each day as they do their morning jobs.  You can support your child to become independent by encouraging them to carry their own school bag and to complete their morning routines.

It is still important if your child is sick that they do not attend school.  Snotty noses, coughs and tummy bugs have been doing the rounds.  Please keep your child at home if they are unwell!

The First Aiders are fundraising this week and will have ice blocks for sale Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. If your child would like to purchase an ice block they can bring $1 to school.

What is happening this week:

What has been happening in Kakano?

WOW!  What a week we have been having.  Thank you to all our Mums and Dads for supporting the children this week as we have headed back into Level 2 Covid procedures.  We appreciate your support and help in this tricky time.

Play: This week one of the main focus in our play has been Science - The Living World. The children have loved looking for bugs, planting plants that we know bugs love to hide in, creating bug hotels and animal habitats and sorting animals into different categories.

We have also loved playing in the sandpit, using the yoga blocks, imagination playground, learning our letters and creating number patterns.
