Our Autumn walk and reminders

Yesterday we went for a walk down Carnot street to observe the changes that happen during the season of Autumn.  We noticed the leaves have all started to change colour, we saw red, orange, yellow and some brown leaves.  We also noticed the way the leaves on the ground were dry and made a crunchy noise as we stomped on them.

We loved picking our favourite leaves from the ground and could not believe how many different shaped leaves we found.

When we got back to class we wrote about our Autumn walk.  Tomorrow we are going to create a piece of Autumn art using paint.  Please make sure you pop into class, read my story and check out my artwork.

Term 2 Week 2

 Week 2 (Rua)

Kia Ora Kākano Whānau,

Happy Mother’s Day to all our mums today! We hope you are having an amazing day and the kids are spoiling you!

We had such an action-packed week. We celebrated all of our Teachers' Birthdays and Penelopes with bouncy castles, candy floss and cake!

We also celebrated World Prayer Day on Thursday. Thank you to all the children for coming dressed up in their national costume. It was so cool to see all the different nationalities and hear all the different languages at our liturgy. Our school is so lucky to have such a culturally diverse school!

This week we will be sending our R.E (Religious Education) Books home! Please have a look through this with your children and fill in the whānau feedback form. Once you have filled it in please send it back to school so we can continue adding to them!

Morning Jobs:

Please remember parents the children need to carry their own school bags, mark their roll and put their Bookbag in the right box on their own. We have loved watching the tamariki come into class in the morning all by themselves and getting on with their jobs. We are so proud of them for managing themselves and getting the jobs they need to get done, done.

This is what this week looks like at a glance…

Weekly Overview:

Monday: Normal School Day

Tuesday: Normal School Day

Wednesday: Normal School Day

Thursday: Normal School Day

Friday: Library, Sausage Sizzle and Juicie Day!

We hope you have had a great weekend and we look forward to seeing all the children at school tomorrow!

Term 2 Week 1

Week 1

Welcome back. We all hope you had a lovely break and that  the children are coming back refreshed.  We have lots of information today so please make sure you read to the end.

This week we welcome Maia, Samuel, Anton, Che’, Ethan, Amaya, Alex, Micah and Maria to our Kakano whanau.

Morning Jobs:

Please remember parents it is important for the children to carry their own school bags, mark their roll and put their Bookbag in the right box on their own.  It is great to see our tamariki becoming more independent each day.

Uniform:

This term we change to the winter school uniform, Please make sure everything is named. Also please provide shoes that the children can independently put on, if you have purchased shoes with laces please teach them how to tie these at home.

Boys - Grey woollen shorts, royal blue skivvy and grey knee high socks with black leather school shoes.

Girls - Blue and red tunic, royal blue skivvy, navy blue knee high socks or navy blue tights with black leather lace school shoes, or Mary Jane type shoes with a strap across the top of the foot.

If girls have long hair, this needs to be tied up using natural hair coloured, royal or navy blue, black or red hair ties, this includes  hair clips, headbands etc.

In winter students may also wear a school polar fleece in addition to their school jersey, when they come to school or are playing outside. The polar fleece is an optional and additional item and is not to be used instead of a school jersey. Polar fleeces are not to be worn in the classroom or at Assembly, Masses or Liturgies.

Three Way Goal Setting Conferences - These are important, if your child was at school last term we need to see you.

In the first week of term we will have Three-Way Goal Setting Conferences for Parent/Student/Teacher.

Students and their parent(s) need to attend a 10-minute appointment on one of these two days.

Appointments available

Tuesday 4 May 3.10pm - 6pm

Wednesday 5 May 3.10pm - 6pm

How to make a booking

Bookings are now open. How do parents make a booking for their child's Three-Way Conference?

Via the following link and enter the code 63c8b

Via the links button on our School App - select School Interviews - enter the code 63c8b

Please note: If you are late for your appointment you might be asked to rebook for another time. This is because the class teacher needs to consider the bookings made by other families and keep to the times they have booked for. We look forward to seeing you and your child at the conference.

Reading

If your children are reading, twice a week they will bring home a new reading book, these will stay in their book bag until the following Monday, we ask that you get your child to read these every night. Please let me know if your child is not wanting to read at night and I can talk to them about it. This is how we are going to get your child reaching their goals and moving up the reading levels.

It is really important to reread these stories to encourage fluency in your child’s reading and also allows them to develop a comprehension of stories.  This is just like when you would read a picture storybook several times and your child can talk about what happens in the book, the characters etc.

Please take the time to fill in the reading logs each day, these also can provide a place to share information between home and school.

Lunches:

Last term we noticed a lot of the children do not have fruit or vegetables that they can eat at brain break, they are then getting very hungry before morning tea at 11:05am.  We suggested a range of foods in their lunch box including fruit/vegetables as well as foods from the other food groups, not just all packet food. Here are some amazing lunchbox ideas.

Mother’s Day Gifts

Our wonderful PTA have their little shop set up for the children to buy little gifts for their lovely mother, nanas, grandmothers.  Each gift is $3.

Children can give their money to the teachers in the morning and we head over just before lunchtime.

Children’s World Day of Prayer 6th May (Thursday)

We invite all students to bring along their national costume to wear to our celebration of all cultures. If your child knows how to speak a few words in their native language, please let Mrs Hall know, so the RE Leaders  can organise for them to share and speak at Liturgy, thank you.

Week 11 Notices

Sorry Mums and Dads!

Mrs Mines thought she had pressed PUBLISH but obviously I did not!  Please find the blog post for this week.

Kia Ora Kākano Whānau,

We have made it to the last week of term!! Last year, term one wasn’t so successful, as we had gone into lockdown after only 8 weeks. It has been a great term. All of the classes have settled well with their new teachers and we, the teachers, have loved getting to know all of the children and families. Thank you for your support during this term with various school and classroom events.

Take a look at some of the photos from last week:

We were lucky to Senior Constable Regan in to talk to the children about safety in the car. He talked about having the correct car seats in for the children as well as the importance of ALWAYS wearing your seatbelt. It is always great to have these community leaders come in and see the children for a casual chat so that the children know that these people are out there to help us.

On Wednesday, some children will be selected to go to a Principal’s morning tea. There are only 3 children per class chosen each term. It is to recognise students for outstanding efforts in the classroom. Although the invite doesn’t specify - this is just for the children to attend. There will be photos on Facebook for parents to look at. Keep an eye out on Tuesday to see if your child has been invited this time!!

During the holidays we celebrate ANZAC Day (Sunday 25th April). I am hoping to have a strong representation from our school attending the parade. If your child would like to join us and walk in the parade and participate in the Civic Ceremony at  the Bay Trust Forum, Energy Events Centre, Queens Drive please make sure they are at the Lakefront Memorial (intersection of Fenton St and Whakaue Streets)  by 8.30am in their winter school uniform. Jersey, not fleece top. The ceremony concludes at the Energy Events Centre and should be over by 11.00am Parents are also invited to be part of the parade and service. Children just might want to be part of the parade. If you have a poppy your child can wear, please pin it on them. I will have some spare ones to give to children at the parade.  This is a very special ceremony so I do encourage our children to be part of this. ALL STUDENTS ARE INVITED TO PARTICIPATE.

At the start of Term 2 children must be in winter uniform. Uniforms can be bought from our uniform shop. The shop is open Monday 8.30am, Wednesday at 2.30pm, Friday at 8.30am and on Monday, the first day back in Term 2, at 8.30pm. I want to make sure our students are wearing the correct uniform in Term 2.  At this point, I would also like to mention that our Lost Property is *overflowing* with items left around the schoolyard by students.

The Week Ahead:

This week is a swimming week!! Bring your togs and towel everyday.

FRIDAY:

Whakaue golden time - if you are in this house make sure you dress in yellow.

Library day. Please make sure you return your old books in order to issue out new ones for the holidays.

We wish you all a safe and restful holiday next week.

Week 10 Reminders

 Kia Ora Kākano Whānau,

We hope you all had a restful and holy Easter weekend.

This week is a short school week.  We have noticed many of our tamariki are tired as we race towards the end of the term.  It is important for children to have an early bedtime to ensure they are getting enough sleep as well as lunch boxes that are filled with brain food such as fruit, yoghurt, vege snacks and sandwiches.

Thank you to the families who have donated spreads for the children to use as they make their own toast and to those who have donated tools, and building supplies for our carpentry area.  Your generosity is much appreciated.

Not much is happening this week at school (apart from all our wonderful learning opportunities).

Wednesday:

Normal school day

Thursday:

Normal school day

Friday:

Library - please ensure your child has their library books and library bag

Sausage Sizzle and Juicies for sale - $1.50 each

We look forward to seeing you back at school tomorrow,

Week 9 Notices

Week 9 - Wiki Iwa

Kia Ora Kākano Whānau,

We hope you have been enjoying your weekend and the sun that has been shining!

We are entering a very special week for our children. The Holy Week. This week is the last week of Lent and we have so many special days to remember and learn about leading up to Easter Sunday, which is when Jesus rose from the dead.

We have some special learning happening for the children this week to help them learn about the Holy Week.

On Tuesday we have a Palm Sunday Liturgy at 12:15pm in the church

On Thursday we have a Washing of the Feet Liturgy at 12:15pm in the hall.

We are teaching all our tamariki about what the week leading up to Easter Sunday is really about. This video could be very helpful to show your children and help you remember what the HOLY WEEK is about and why it is important that we recognise and celebrate the days leading up to Easter Sunday.
