Week 4 - Wiki Wha

We hope you have been enjoying your weekend and have been enjoying the sunshine when it has decided to pop out from behind the clouds. 


School Start Time: 

Please remember school starts at 8:45am.  The teachers mark the roll at this time and if your child is not here, they are marked as absent. If they do get dropped off after 8:45am they will need to go to the office to be marked present for the morning. 


Keeping Ourselves Safe: 

We will be starting our Keeping Ourselves Safe Learning in Kākano this week and next week. We are very excited to continue and strengthen the childrens’ learning from Harold with the help of our New Zealand Police, keeping ourselves safe programme. If you do have any questions, comments or concerns please feel free to email or drop in and chat with one of the teachers in our space. 


Assumption of Mary Liturgy

This week we have the Assumption of Mary Liturgy on Thursday at 12:15pm in our school hall. All parents, caregivers and whānau are more than welcome to attend. 


PB4L - Parents Chat Night

Thursday 19th August 3:15-4:15 pm and 6:00-7:00 pm

PB4L - Have you ever wondered...

  • What St Mary's does to support wellbeing and good mental health? 

  • How does St Mary's manages student behaviour?

  • What to do if your child isn’t feeling happy at school?

PB4L is hosting a parent chat night. There are 2 sessions available to make sure that we can involve as many families as possible. Childcare will be provided for those who need it.  Come along and enjoy some light refreshments and good conversation. Grant Gaston, an advisor from the Ministry of Education, will also be there to share ideas and help answer questions.

Lots of fun at school

Check out some of the cool things we have been up to in class this week.  Keep scrolling to the bottom to find important reminders.

Our teachers have been helping us to learn about art and the different things we can do and use when creating pieces of art.

We also love to play in the kitchen area where we are learning to use chopsticks.

We love creating with the lego bricks and duplo blocks and have enjoyed writing at the writing table.

Sunday: School Mass, we welcome you all to celebrate the Sunday Mass at 10am.

Wiki Toru (Week 3)

 


We would like to thank everyone who came along to the three-way conferences last week.  These are a great way to celebrate the children's learning and look at what the children will be learning next.


Today is the  Feast Day of Mary MacKillop and we will be celebrating this on Friday.  We celebrate this with  Mass on Friday at 12pm.  Parents and families are welcome to join us.  We have other fun activities to celebrate with the children during the day.


Please remember school starts at 8:45am.  The teachers mark the roll  at this time. If your children arrive after this time they need to go to the office as they are late.


Keeping Ourselves Safe

There is a community hui at St Mary's School on Monday 9 August, 5.15-6pm, in Room 14, where I will explain what the Keeping Ourselves Safe programme entails, and share some tips about keeping your young ones safe. You are encouraged to attend.


School Mass

Next Sunday, the parish has a Māori Miha (Māori Mass) at 10.00 am followed by a procession carrying the Statue of Mother Mary around the Church and our school. All students from the schools are invited to join the procession with their parents at 11.00 am in front of St Mary’s Church. There is a shared lunch after the procession that everyone is invited to and families are asked to bring a plate to share.

Wiki Rua

Kia Orana, this week is Cook Island Language Week.

To celebrate this we are learning a prayer and some basic sayings in Cook Island Maori.

A few reminders

 What a great start to the week we have had!

The children are incredibly settled and have loved their new learning space.

Reports

Reports will be sent home this Friday.  Inside the envelope will be another piece of paper, please take the time to complete this and bring to the interviews next week.

Interviews

Next week we will have Three-Way Goal Setting Conferences for Parent/Student/Teacher.


Students and their parent(s) need to make an appointment to attend a 10-minute conference with the child's teacher on one of these two days.

Life Education

You may have noticed the Life Education van has arrived at school.  We will be visiting Harold and Katie over the next few weeks and learning about positive relationships and how to keep ourselves healthy.

Keeping Ourselves Safe

We will also be running the Keeping Ourselves Safe programme later this term alongside the NZ Police.   Please see below:

I would like to acknowledge St Mary’s school for their ongoing commitment to delivering the Keeping Ourselves Safe (KOS) programme. KOS is a personal safety programme that teaches students vital interpersonal skills in different situations. The programme will be delivered by classroom teachers from 23rd August. There will be a community hui at St Mary's School on Monday 9 August, 5.15-6pm, in Room 14, where I will explain what the programme entails, and share some tips about keeping your young ones safe. You are encouraged to attend.


Please take time to speak with your children about what they are learning in the programme. It will also give you an opportunity to reinforce your family’s values and expectations.

We have been busy practising meditation at school as part of our prayer time.  I have been so proud of the way the children spend time being still and silent as they invite Jesus into their hearts.  If you would like to know more about our Christian meditation please ask your child.

Term 3, Week 1

 Welcome back to T3!  We hope you all had a restful holiday break.


The teachers spent their holidays participating in professional learning and are keen to begin implementing our new learning with the children.   We also have been busy changing things up in our classroom and are excited to see what the children think of their new space.



This week we welcome Mrs Jane Trask to the Kākano whanau.   Mrs Trask and her new children will be working in the room just outside of Kākano.  We can't wait to welcome our new friends.

PTA AGM The PTA AGM is scheduled for  7pm Wednesday 28 July - first week back Term Three - in the school staffroom. All are  welcome to attend. There will be drinks and nibbles provided!!
