Alert Level 2 Reminders

Yay - we are looking forward to seeing everyone back at school tomorrow.

Things you need to know as we head back to school at Alert Level 2.

  • Kākano students (and siblings) can start arriving at school from 8:45am - 9:00am (this is the time before school care children arrive at school).

  • Parents are encouraged to drop their children at the gate, if you are to come into school you will need to sign in using the QR code and follow the arrows to the classroom.

  • No parents are to enter the classroom.  If you need to speak to your child’s teacher please email them and they will contact you.

  • School gates will be locked from 9am.  If your child is late to school you will need to walk them to the office via the Carnot street gate.

  • School pick up for Kākano students (and siblings) will be between 2:45pm and 2:55pm from the church car park.  If you wish to pick your child up from another gate please notify your child’s teacher.

At Level 2:

  • Classes will operate as normal

  • The school playground is allowed to be used

  • Pita Pit can be ordered Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday

  • The PTA will operate the Sausage Sizzle this Friday

Masks:

  • We have been advised that teachers and students do not need to wear masks.  If you wish your child to wear a mask they need to be able to take their mask on and off independently and keep their mask clean.

  • Parents entering the school grounds will need to wear masks.

Drink Bottles:

  • All children will need to have a drink bottle at school as the drinking fountains will not be used at Alert Level 2

Sickness:

  • Any children who have cough or cold symptoms are to stay at home until they are well.  If your child becomes unwell while at school, you will be asked to pick them up ASAP.

We look forward to seeing the children back at school tomorrow and know that you will support us in making sure the Alert Level 2 rules are followed.

Week 6 - Mid Week Update

Welcome to the middle of another week!  It is hard to believe that we have now been in lockdown for 2 whole weeks!

Again, thank you for all you are doing at home supporting your child’s learning.  The teachers are loving the updates you are providing.

The Google chats are proving very successful and it is great for the children to see their friends and maintain relationships.

We will have our second Google chat tomorrow at 11am. The children will need to bring a pen and a piece of paper as we will be playing a game of Bingo (all will be shared tomorrow). It is also an opportunity for children to dress up, all children can wear their favourite dress-up clothes.

Please vote for what we should call our 2 No-Name Chicks.

I hope all is well with you and your families,

Sara

Wiki Ono (Week 6)

Kia Ora Kākano Whanau

Welcome to week 6!! Well done on making it through lockdown so far. Thank you so much for all of your support during this time. It is so important to us, the teachers, that you are all well and safe at home. We are not judging families on how much school work they are getting done during these uncertain times.

Please make sure to fill in this survey by Monday (30th August) 9AM.

Link to survey: https://www.smore.com/h16yb-covid-level-3-update?ref=email

Teachers will be following up with families who have not completed it by then. The survey gives us important information on who needs to be at school during Level 3.

Mr James has created a virtual assembly to make up for the assembly we didn’t share together on Friday, as we usually do during normal school. Click the link below to watch the assembly and find out who the superkids are this week!!!

Week 5 - Mid Week Update

I would like to thank you all so much for participating in our online learning with your child.  I have loved seeing the pictures, videos and work that your child is doing whilst at home.  Again, if you need anything please feel free to email me saram@stmarysrotorua.school.nz

The children were so amazing today during our chat, making sure their microphones were on mute, and using the ‘hand raise’ button when they wanted to share with the group.  I was so impressed with how fast they picked up the idea of a group video chat and how quickly they learned to use the video chat tools.

We will have another Google chat this Friday at 11am.  This chat will be a Crazy Hat Chat so come wearing a hat that you have made or one you have around home!  We will also have a game - Scavenger Hunt so be prepared to race around your whare looking for things.

As a staff we are aware that Lockdown can cause many families stress and anxiety, if you know of any families who are in need of a food parcel please let me know.  The school has access to weetbix, milk and bread, and will be able to drop off food parcels with all the necessary safety requirements.

Keep safe and I hope we get to see each other in our real classroom (not the virtual one) very soon.

Wiki Rima (Week 5)

 Kia Ora Kākano Whanau

Welcome to a very different Week 5.  Please see the information below on how to support your child’s learning whilst at home.

Parent Meeting:

You will receive an email invitation to meet with me tomorrow.  This is an opportunity for parents to ask questions and for me to offer support as we head into online learning.  Please note this meeting will be for all parents to attend.  I will set up a time to meet with students later in the week.

Educa

All children have an Educa account.  Teachers will be sharing daily tasks for you to complete alongside your child.  This could include maths, early literacy activities, reading, writing, RE, physical challenges.  At the start of the week, you will receive a Bingo Board which will give you some ideas on activities your child could complete.  If you do not have access to Educa already please email me at saram@stmarys.school.nz You can share what your child is getting up to with me via Educa.  Check out the link to find out how to add a parent story to your child’s account, https://help.geteduca.com/en/articles/2563464-create-a-parent-story

How will learning look at your home…

In Kākano we spend a good part of our day Learning through play. This means at home your child should spend time playing as part of their learning.  When your child is sitting down to do ‘formal’ learning they should be spending no longer than 15minutes at a task.  Remember everything you are doing at home is supporting your child’s learning.  This includes going for a walk, helping with chores, playing board games, imaginative play with siblings, making independent choices inside and outside when playing.  Positive interactions with others will benefit their learning.

Keep an eye on Educa each day for your child’s task.  All learning tasks will be uploaded to Educa by 8:30 each day.

We will keep you posted with any changes to our online learning via email and the class blog.

I hope you are all well during these unfamiliar and very different times,

Sara

Chick Update

 Kia Ora Kākano Whanau

When we received the news about lockdown we were very worried about the eggs in the incubator that were due to hatch.  Mrs Mareroa and Mrs Thomson decided to head to school to collect them.

Luckily we did because the Thomson family woke to a very excited Alana and three new chicks.  When we took these chicks out to join Fuzzy Wuzzy (the 1st chick to hatch) we noticed another starting to crack through.  We will keep you informed if we get another chick.

We are so disappointed that we can not share this amazing experience together at school but wanted to share this news with you all.  We know that you have all been patiently waiting for 21 days to see the chicks.

We miss seeing you all at school.

Take care of your families and stay safe.
