Week 5

Talofa Kākano Whānau.

This week is Samoan language week. Did you know that samoan is the third most spoken language in New Zealand.

Another busy week in Kakano last week, on top of our normal week we also ran the Pentecost Liturgy.  We are so proud of how all our children participated in this.

We have been donated a large amount of craft resources and the children have had loads of fun creating some amazing spider webs outside.  It was great to see the children working alongside each other to create this.  If someone got stuck in the web they would work together to get them free.

We also had a large amount of buttons and the children have been making their own jewellery.

If you are having a clear out at home and have anything you are disposing of please have a chat with one of the teachers, because your junk could be an amazing resource for the children.

The week ahead:

Monday - normal school day. Mrs Mines and Mrs Mareroa are away

Tuesday - normal school day. Mrs Mines and Mrs Mareroa are away

Wednesday - normal school day

Thursday - normal school day

Friday - sausage sizzle, juicy, library day

Enjoy the rest of your weekend.

Week 4

 Kia Ora Kākano Whānau,

We had a great week last week with the children. The teachers set up some awesome provocations that relate to our learning this term. The overall theme is Wellness and we are looking at the social sciences curriculum area. Children have been involved in making butter, making peanut butter, learning about different types of shelters, keeping warm, eating healthy, and feeding animals.

This week we are running the Pentecost liturgy. Children who are involved in the speaking parts will bring home some words on Monday to practise at home. Thank you for helping them with this. All families are welcome to attend!! It is on Thursday at 12:15 in the HALL.

The children are still really enjoying making the toast in the morning. A reminder that we provide the bread but rely on the generosity of our parents to bring in spreads. Thank you so much for bringing these in.

The week ahead:

Monday - normal school day

Tuesday - normal school day

Wednesday - normal school day

Thursday - LITURGY in HALL 12:15

Friday - sausage sizzle, juicy, library day

We look forward to another fun-filled learning week with the children.

See you all tomorrow!

Learning fun in Kākano

Reminders:
  • Library - we visit the library every Friday.  Please make sure your child has their library books ready to return so they can issue new books for the weekend.

  • Sausage sizzle and Juicies for sale every Friday - $1.50 for both.

  • RE books - there are a few RE books that have not yet been returned to school, can you please return them ASAP.  Thank you to those whānau members who took the time to have a look through the RE books.  The children loved sharing their learning with you.

Our Learning:

This week in Kākano we have been enjoying our warm toast each morning.  We have been talking about where our food comes from and how food is made.  We were surprised to learn butter is made from cream and cream comes from cows.

After we found out this interesting information we decided we could make our own butter by pouring cream into the jar and shaking, shaking, shaking until the cream turned into butter.  The butter we have made is so tasty on our fresh toast.

Week 3

 Week 3 (toru)

Kia Ora Kākano Whānau,

Welcome to the start of another busy week.

Start of the day:

It is great to see all our children arriving at school happy and ready to learn.  We love our Mums and Dads visiting the classroom in the mornings, however, we ask that you say your goodbyes by 8:45 so the children can settle into their day.

Reminder:

Children can wear their school polar fleece when playing outside, however when indoors we ask the children to remove their fleece as the classrooms are heated.

Our Autumn walk and reminders

Yesterday we went for a walk down Carnot street to observe the changes that happen during the season of Autumn.  We noticed the leaves have all started to change colour, we saw red, orange, yellow and some brown leaves.  We also noticed the way the leaves on the ground were dry and made a crunchy noise as we stomped on them.

We loved picking our favourite leaves from the ground and could not believe how many different shaped leaves we found.

When we got back to class we wrote about our Autumn walk.  Tomorrow we are going to create a piece of Autumn art using paint.  Please make sure you pop into class, read my story and check out my artwork.

😍

RE BOOKS
You will find your child's RE book in their school bag.  Please take the time to lool through the books to see what the children have been up to over the past term and to fill in the whanau page.

Term 2 Week 2

 Week 2 (Rua)

Kia Ora Kākano Whānau,

Happy Mother’s Day to all our mums today! We hope you are having an amazing day and the kids are spoiling you!

We had such an action-packed week. We celebrated all of our Teachers' Birthdays and Penelopes with bouncy castles, candy floss and cake!

We also celebrated World Prayer Day on Thursday. Thank you to all the children for coming dressed up in their national costume. It was so cool to see all the different nationalities and hear all the different languages at our liturgy. Our school is so lucky to have such a culturally diverse school!

This week we will be sending our R.E (Religious Education) Books home! Please have a look through this with your children and fill in the whānau feedback form. Once you have filled it in please send it back to school so we can continue adding to them!

Morning Jobs:

Please remember parents the children need to carry their own school bags, mark their roll and put their Bookbag in the right box on their own. We have loved watching the tamariki come into class in the morning all by themselves and getting on with their jobs. We are so proud of them for managing themselves and getting the jobs they need to get done, done.
